We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding of over £130,000 from Welsh Government and The National Heritage Lottery Fund’s The Woodland Investment Grant to enhance the historic woodlands at Bryngarw Country Park.
The funding will be used to: carry out conservation work on the existing trees; build a new boardwalk and viewing platform; plant semi-mature native broadleaved trees; install new gates, oak benches and hedgehog and bird boxes; add signage and interpretation; undertake river revetment; and deal with invasive species including Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam within the 113 acre site.
The grant will also cover the cost of equipment and skills training for staff and volunteers for the ongoing maintenance of the woodlands, resurfacing of some of Bryngarw’s footpaths to make them more accessible to visitors with limited mobility and creating a woodland classroom and education pack for schools and groups to learn about woodland ecosystems.
Over the coming months, we will be engaging with the local community and partner organisations, who we hope will support us in delivering this exciting project. Keep an eye on our social media channels for details of events and opportunities!
