Pencoed Library will be closed to the public from Monday 19th December to commence its redevelopment work. The library is expected to reopen in early March 2023 for its 50th anniversary year.
The redevelopment, which will include updating the old, static furniture with mobile shelving, creating a work/study space and building a community meeting room for local groups and support services to use, has been funded by a Welsh Government Capital Transformation Grant Scheme.
Awen Cultural Trust, the registered charity which manages Pencoed Library in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council, is providing additional match-funding to install solar panels on the building’s south-facing roof. This means that during daylight hours, Pencoed Library will run using sustainable energy sources.
While the library is closed, there will be a Book and Collect service operating from Pencoed Town Council’s Office in the Salem Chapel Vestry from Tuesday 3rd January 2023. The library staff will also be visiting schools, nurseries and other community venues to deliver events including bounce and rhyme, reading groups, crafternoons, coding clubs, story times and digital support sessions for residents.
